Stella Villalba was raised and nurtured in a bicultural and bilingual household. Born in Argentina to parents from Paraguay, Stella learned that being a multilingual learner is a superpower and it’s through those lenses that she teaches, listens and leads everyday.  She has taught in Dual Education Schools and in English as a Second Language programs. She is currently a Teacher Leader and a Staff Developer coaching and mentoring educators to be ready for a Global Education that is rooted in multilingualism, and culturally & community sustaining pedagogy. She uses diverse children’s literature as an essential pedagogy in teaching with children which is why it brings her joy being a curator for Bookelicious. She has a Bachelors in Foreign Language Teaching; a Master of Arts in Language, Literacy and Culture with a specialization in Children’s Literature and is currently pursuing a PhD degree at The Ohio State University in Equity and Multicultural Studies. Stella’s love languages include reading a huge stack of children’s books on Saturday mornings, going for long walks and listening to music. And when the Soccer World Cup is on, you will most likely find her cheering for Argentina.

Sophie joined the Bookelicious team as the curator for graphic novels and action/adventure books. Nikki holds a PhD in Literacy and believes strongly in student choice to drive reading motivation.  Nikki has been in public education for over 20 years, where most of her time has been spent in an elementary school library. With Masters degrees in both Literacy Education and Social Work, Joanna has a special interest in how reading can promote children and young people’s social and emotional development. She worked as an elementary school teacher for ten years, and now, in addition to curating books for Bookelicious readers, coordinates phonics content and facilitates workshops in schools throughout London, UK. Antonia Rodgers is an experienced educator who has taught K-2 in both Texas and New York. She obtained a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Houston and previously served on the Build Your Stack committee with the National Council of Teachers of English. She has worked with publishers to write teachers’ guides for several picture books and reviews children’s books online in a blog. She enjoys reading historical fiction that teaches children about overlooked historical moments as well about stories about friendship. Antonia also enjoys visiting bookstores in every new city that she visits and is always buying just one more book to read!

Nawal Qarooni is a Jersey City-based educator, writer and adjunct professor who supports a holistic approach to literacy instruction and family experiences in schools across the country. Drawing on her work as an inquiry-based leader, mother of four, and proud daughter of immigrants, Nawal’s pedagogy is centered in the rich and authentic learning all families gift their children every day. She and her team of coaches at NQC Literacy work with schools and districts to collectively grow teacher practice and children’s literacy lives. She is the author of Nourishing Caregiver Collaborations: Exalting Home Experiences and Classroom Practices in Collective Care (Stenhouse/ Routledge December 2023). In addition, she is a member of the National Council for Teachers of English Committee Against Racism and Bias in the Teaching of English; she evaluates manuscripts for Reese Witherspoon’s LitUp program, which platforms historically underrepresented voices in publishing; and she serves on the Library of Congress Literacy Awards Advisory Board, which funds powerful literacy programming across the country. Nawal holds a Bachelor of English from the University of Michigan, a Master of Teaching from Brooklyn College, and a Master of Journalism from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School. She won a New Jersey Press Association Award for her international reporting and transitioned into education as a New York City Teaching Fellow.
